Yorkshire Insider's prestigious award reinforces Doncaster's credentials as a business-friendly location for logistics and distribution businesses, and property developers.
At the Insider‘s Yorkshire Property Industry Awards on Wednesday evening (24 September), Doncaster Council was recognised as the best Local Authority over the last 12 months for supporting and delivering economic growth and jobs.
Doncaster fought off competition from Wakefield and Hull to land this top honour sponsored by Bond Bryan Architects. Held at Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, almost 500 people gathered for the awards which celebrated a resurgent year in the region’s property industry.
Commenting on the success, Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “I am very proud of this achievement, which acknowledges our success in supporting business by creating the right conditions for growth. Our staff work closely with investors and developers to make transformational projects and schemes a reality. A prime example of our partnership working is the new FARRRS link road that will support about £1.7 billion of private sector development around Rossington and Doncaster Sheffield Airport - home to the UK’s newest Enterprise Zone, which we secured earlier this year.”
“We have made great strides in the last 12 months which has raised our profile as a business destination. We continue to welcome international companies to the town like Austrian/Swiss rail group Rhomberg Sersa who can see the significant benefits of locating their UK operations in Doncaster – the home of rail. The national High Speed Rail College would also transform the rail and engineering sector across the borough, Sheffield City Region, Yorkshire and the North and we continue to push for it to based right here in Doncaster,” added Mayor Jones.
Adam Lovell, Yorkshire Business Insider‘s new editor, praised the assembled property professionals as “instrumental in driving investment, supporting growth and contributing toward the creation a fertile environment for a more prosperous future”.
