Major site infrastructure works for the iPort project started in October 2013 with the commencement of the new motorway linked development access known as the FARRRS Road, connecting the 700 acre (293 hectare) site from Junction 3 of the M18 through to Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood Airport. This next phase of development will include site levelling, surcharging, installation of the sub-base of the roads within the site, set up of the utility connections and the enabling works for the design and implementation of the on-site, 35-acre rail freight terminal.
John Clements, European Development Director at Verdion, comments: “This next phase of works is a major investment and demonstrates the continued commitment of Verdion and HOOPP to realise the delivery of iPort as quickly as possible. Once the works are complete we will be in a position where we can deliver bespoke buildings for clients within a very short time frame, further increasing the pool of potential occupiers.” The current proposals are for at least five large footprint buildings of up to 111,524 m² each, as well as many smaller footprint units, all capable of being built up to a height of 35 metres.
